Gebhard Leberecht was born in 1742. Son of Christian Friedrich von Blücher and Dorothea Maria von Zülow. He soon joined the Prussian Army, and rose to a become a distinguished general. He lead 6th Coalition armies against Napoleon in 1813 and 1814. Blücher also beat Napoleon at The battle of Waterloo 1 year later. He died in 1819.
His remains were interred in the imposing Blücher Mausoleum in Krobielowice. The tomb was desecrated by Soviet troops in 1945 during their brief occupation of the area and they scattered his bones, reportedly using his skull as a football. What remained was reportedly taken about 1989 by a Polish priest and reinterred in the catacomb of the Parish Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Sośnica.
